Ude Hishigi Ashi Gatame - Arm Crushing Leg Arm Lock

Kansetsu Waza #8
Ashi Gatame, when applied properly is a joint lock against the elbow while the arm is straight.  Uke can be lying on the mat or standing when this lock is applied.  By applying the arm lock correctly and causing Uke to tap twice, you can cause Uke to forfeit the match.

Begin by standing in front of Uke and taking a normal grip.  With Uke’s right hand at your collar grabbing your lapel, release your right hand grip and seize Uke’s wrist to trap it. Break Uke's grip so that you are now holding his right wrist in your right hand.  Press Uke's arm down so that Uke is forced down towards the mat.  Make sure that you are walking backwards away from Uke as you pull on his arm and help him to the mat.  This action keeps Uke's arm straight and limits his escape potential.

Once Uke is down to the mat, pull Uke's arm toward your knee. Your right hand should be pulling back on Uke's right wrist while your left hand is pulling back on Uke's right shoulder. Your leg is preventing Uke's right elbow from moving. Slowly pull back with your hands and push with your leg against Uke's elbow.
